Miki’s Secrets
Q: What’s something you do to help boost your productivity?
A: List, list, list! I write everything down; if I don’t write it down, I can’t trust I will do it.
Q: How do you find work life balance?
A: I believe that it’s a very conscious choice one has to make. It is very easy, especially now when the lines between home and work are blurred, to not make this balance a priority.
In my case, I have a home office and at the end of my day, I shut the door. Seems like a silly thing, but it makes a difference. I shut the door and it allows me to make the transition mentally. That is not to say that I don’t check my phone or respond to any texts or emails from those I support — but it really does allow my work mind to shut down.
I also cherish my time off. I do my best to take my time off, and when I am off — I am off. I am lucky to have a co-worker (and friend) who covers for me, so when I am on vacation I know that I can trust her to do whatever needs to get done.
Q: What’s the best piece of professional advice you’ve received so far?
A: Don’t be afraid to fail.
With every failure there is a lesson and a path forward. I believe that mistakes and failures are stepping stones to development and growth. It is what you choose to learn and change that creates success from failure.
Secondly — always, always lead with kindness.
Q: What’s your favorite software or app that helps with your workflow?
A: The Microsoft teams app. It allows me to be able to be as responsive as I would be if I were sitting at my desk.
Q: What’s a book or podcast you’d recommend to a colleague?
A: I guess I would have to recommend the book our CEO wrote: Digital Business Transformation by Nigel Vaz!
