When you’re deep in the day-to-day, it’s easy to forget just how much you’ve accomplished. Then review season hits, or a raise convo pops up, and suddenly you’re staring at a blinking cursor like, “Wait…what did I even do this quarter?”
That’s where ChatGPT (or CoPilot, etc.) comes in clutch. With the right prompts, it’ll help you:
- keep track of your wins without overthinking it
- pull together a brag doc that sounds like you (but better)
- write a raise email that’s clear, confident, and not awkward
Here’s how to make it work for you:
1. Start with your raw notes
Dig through your calendar, emails, Slack messages, and old performance reviews to build a messy brain dump of everything you worked on: wins, shoutouts, big moments, KPIs, and anything else that signals growth. (You can even take screenshots vs copy & pasting to speed things up.)
Then drop it into ChatGPT with a prompt like:
“Here’s a messy list of what I’ve worked on this quarter. Can you turn this into strong, action-oriented bullet points? Ask me what data or results might be missing.”
2. Group your wins by theme
To make your impact easier to scan (and remember), ask ChatGPT to bucket your bullets into categories.
Prompt: “Can you group these into 4–6 themes based on scope or type of impact? Suggest clear category names too.”
Common ones include:
- Revenue growth
- Leadership & team support
- Innovation or process improvements
- Visibility or reputation building
- DEI or culture contributions
3. Add context + results
Even great work can sound flat if there’s no ‘so what.’ Ask ChatGPT to add metrics, before/after language, or suggested impact framing.
Prompt: “Can you help me tighten these bullets with suggested metrics or more outcome-focused language?”
4. Tailor to your audience
If this is for a raise or performance review, make sure the tone and scope match your seniority.
Prompt: “Can you rewrite these to sound polished, data-driven, and aligned with director-level language? I want it to reflect leadership and strategic thinking.”
Prompt (for job search): “Can you help me reframe these for a resume or interview context, focusing on scope, outcomes, and initiative?”
5. Plug into a living brag doc
Now that you’ve got solid bullets and clear categories, organize them into a doc you update quarterly.
- “Quarterly Wins”
- “Career Highlights”
- “Wins Outside My Job Description”
- “What I Want My Manager to Know”
Need a head start? Use this free template.
Need help filling the rest? Try:
“Based on these accomplishments, what’s a professional goal I could set for next quarter?”
“How would you summarize these highlights in one paragraph for a performance review?”
6. Draft the raise ask email
Your doc is tight. Now let’s make the ask. Start with this email template, then give ChatGPT your brag doc and say:
Prompt: “Use this doc to personalize the raise request below. Help me sound confident, collaborative, and grounded in my accomplishments.”
One last thing: Keep your brag doc updated every quarter. It’ll make raise convos, job apps, review season, and even LinkedIn updates way less stressful. You already did the hard work, now make sure it shows. Good luck!
