FOR THE MIND

Train Your Brain

Brain training games are all the rage these days. They’re like a workout for your mind, improving memory, focus, and concentration, while also reducing stress and anxiety. Plus, they can help you become a master problem solver!

Most brain training games involve logic puzzles or visual pattern recognition. These activities stimulate your brain by creating more neural pathways, which means you can process information more quickly and clearly. The result? Enhanced productivity and mental clarity.

Studies have shown that regular brain training can benefit both young adults and seniors. Youngsters can improve critical thinking and concentration, while older folks may experience improved memory and decision-making abilities. And if you’re feeling blue, research suggests that brain training can boost creativity and morale, too.

With so many apps and websites available, you can train your brain anytime, anywhere. So, whether you want to shine at work or simply feel more agile in everyday life, a few minutes a day playing brain games could make all the difference.

Ready to give it a try? Here are a few popular brain training apps:

Lumosity: This popular app has been featured in the New York Times and can help improve cognitive skills, including memory, problem-solving and focus.

FOR THE BODY

Immunity Boosting Superfoods

Eating healthy, nutrient-rich foods can help keep your body’s natural defenses strong. Here are a few immunity-boosting superfoods to add to your diet:

🍊 Citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruit and lemons. These contain high levels of Vitamin C, which can help boost the immune system by aiding white blood cells’ ability to fight infection.

🧄 Garlic is rich in antioxidants, which can help fight off disease-causing bacteria and viruses. It also contains allicin, which has antiviral and antibacterial properties.

🥬 Dark leafy greens like spinach and kale are a great source of Vitamin A and C, powerful antioxidants that can reduce inflammation caused by infection. They also provide an abundance of other minerals like iron, magnesium and potassium.

🐟 Fatty fish like salmon, tuna and trout are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, which can reduce inflammation associated with colds and flu. The protein in these fish help to build immunity as well as support healthy brain functions.

🌰 Nuts and seeds like almonds and pumpkin seeds contain zinc — a mineral that helps strengthen the immune system against infection. They also have healthy fats like Omega 6 fatty acids for energy production along with plant proteins for muscle building.

Eating these superfoods regularly will give your body the nutrients it needs to stay healthy during cold & flu season!

FOR THE WORKPLACE

Walk a Mile in Their Shoes

Cross-training is a job practice that involves employees switching job roles in order to gain a better understanding of the work being done in each area. It can be highly beneficial, both for the employees and the company as a whole.

Benefits of cross-training at work:

Increased Efficiency: By cross-training different staff members, workflow can become streamlined and efficient, leading to increased productivity.

Better Problem Solving: When different team members with varying skillsets are all working together on a task, it can lead to improved problem solving and creative solutions.

Increased Morale: Cross-training helps show staff how their individual contributions matter, which can boost morale by helping them feel more valued and appreciated.

Improved Teamwork & Collaboration: With employees sharing their knowledge and experience across departments, it builds bonds between coworkers that can lead to better collaboration throughout the company.

To implement cross training at work, here are some steps you can take:

  1. Create a plan for which skillsets should be shared between workers.
  2. Pair up employees in different departments to start the process of sharing skillsets.
  3. Establish short-term goals and rewards for reaching them.
  4. Properly document each task in order to make future work faster and more efficient.
  5. Monitor progress regularly and adjust plans if needed to ensure everyone is on track and motivated.

FOR YOUR TEAM

Smoke & Mirrors Day

Celebrate Smoke & Mirrors day with some magic tricks!Did you know that when 9 is multiplied by any number between 2 and 9, the digits of the answer will always add up to 9?

That makes up the basis of this easy trick we’re about to spill:

  1. Ask a person to select a number between 2 and 9. Then ask them to multiply that number by 9.
  2. Ask them to add the two digits of the answer (it will always be 9.)
  3. Ask them to subtract 5 from that number (it will always be 4.)
  4. Ask them to assign an alphabet to that number – so A=1, B=2, C=3, and so on. They will get D because their answer will be 4.
  5. Tell them to think of a country that begins with that letter but not say it out loud. (99.9% of the time they will choose Denmark.)
  6. Now, tell them to take the second letter of that country’s name and think of an animal that begins with that letter but keep it secret as well.

Pause and appear to give this some thought. Then quite casually say, “I don’t think Denmark has elephants, except in zoos.”
