A Practical Guide to Working With Every Generation on Your Team
If you’ve ever been in a meeting where a Boomer suggested a phone call, a Millennial suggested Slack, and a Gen Z suggested a voice memo, you know: generational differences are real.
When you know what each generation actually values, communication gets easier, collaboration improves, and you stop assuming everyone’s being difficult on purpose.
Here’s your cheat sheet for appreciating and working with every generation on your team.
If you’re a Boomer
Working with Gen X: They value efficiency above all else. When they push back on a meeting or question a process, they’re trying to save everyone time. Let them work independently and judge them on results, not how often you see them.
Working with Millennials: They ask for constant feedback because they want to grow and improve. When they ask “why,” they’re trying to understand the bigger picture so they can contribute better. Share your wisdom, and they’ll soak it up.
Working with Gen Z: They have strong boundaries around mental health and work-life balance. When they push back on after-hours emails, they’re protecting their sustainability. Their questions about company values hold you accountable to what you say you stand for.
If you’re Gen X
Working with Boomers: They bring decades of experience you can tap into. When they want a face-to-face conversation instead of an email, it’s because they know relationship-building matters. Ask for their perspective on challenges you’re facing—they’ve probably solved it before.
Working with Millennials: They thrive on collaboration and consensus-building. When they want to schedule a sync or get your input, they’re trying to avoid mistakes and get alignment. Their enthusiasm for purpose-driven work is what keeps them engaged and productive.
Working with Gen Z: They find faster ways to do things using AI and automation. When they suggest a new tool or process, listen, they might save everyone hours. Their directness is efficient communication, which you can appreciate.
If you’re a Millennial
Working with Boomers: They’ve seen trends come and go, which makes their skepticism valuable. When they’re cautious about “the new way,” ask for their input on what’s worked before. Their preference for phone calls builds relationships in ways Slack can’t replicate.
Working with Gen X: They respect everyone’s time by getting straight to business. When they skip the small talk, they’re being efficient. Their skepticism protects the team from bad ideas. Let them work autonomously and they’ll deliver results.
Working with Gen Z: They’re intentional about work-life balance and long-term sustainability. When they set boundaries, they’re modeling healthy workplace behavior. Their comfort with technology is a skill you can learn from to work smarter.
If you’re Gen Z
Working with Boomers: They want to mentor and share what they’ve learned. When they want to meet in person or hop on a call, it’s because they’ve learned that’s how relationships are built. Their stories are lessons you don’t have to learn the hard way.
Working with Gen X: They protect their time and yours by keeping things efficient. When they don’t respond to your message right away or keep meetings short, they’re managing their workload strategically. Their skepticism is wisdom from surviving corporate BS.
Working with Millennials: They’re thorough and want everyone aligned before moving forward. When they want to discuss the why behind decisions, they’re ensuring the team is on the same page. Their enthusiasm for collaboration means better ideas come from working together.
The magic happens when you mix them
Here’s what a multigenerational team gives you:
- Boomers bring wisdom and relationship-building
- Gen X brings efficiency and BS detection
- Millennials bring collaboration and purpose
- Gen Z brings innovation and authenticity
When you start appreciating what each generation brings instead of trying to make everyone work your way, you build something extraordinary.
The goal is to celebrate generational differences, learn from them, and build a team where every generation makes the others stronger.
LEADERSHIP TOOLS

What Modern Leadership Actually Takes
Leadership is a lot of things, but it is not about doing more. It’s about knowing what to stop doing—like chasing down updates, guessing who’s on shift, or duct-taping another “quick fix” to a broken workflow.
Here’s what it looks like when your systems work like teammates:
📊 For the admin overwhelm that never ends
Running a business means juggling way too much—invoicing, accounting, and a dozen social posts that were due yesterday. Zoho keeps them all in check without making you hop tools to get it done.
📁 For goals that get lost in the group chat
Profit Apps makes it easier to track what’s moving, what’s stalled, and who’s doing what, minus the micromanaging.
💸 For the payroll Friday you dread
Patriot keeps payroll clean, compliant, and off your plate fast, so you can start the weekend earlier.
🛟 For the support inbox you avoid opening
Zendesk helps you stay on top of requests without getting buried in them. More self-service, less scramble.
📈 For sales leads that slip through the cracks
Salesforce gives you the full picture; not just a spreadsheet of names. It’s the difference between guessing and knowing.
HEALTH

A No-Shame Guide to Weight Loss From Someone Who’s Tried Almost Everything
Alright, my love. It’s a new year, which means we’re all staring down our wellness goals and wondering who we’re going to be by February.
In a best friend, pull-you-aside kind of way, I want to share what I’ve learned after years of both healthy and unhealthy attempts at being happy with my weight and body. Maybe you’ll relate. Maybe it’ll save you from something. Or maybe it’ll give you permission to try something new without shame.
I grew up always a little chubby, but active and involved in sports. It wasn’t until my late twenties that I discovered online fitness communities and changed the narrative around wellness and my identity. Along the way, I dealt with health issues, took a more holistic approach to my life, learned how ADD and PCOS impact hormones and metabolism, and eventually earned my NASM personal training certification. I went on to coach hundreds of busy corporate women.
The embarrassing stuff
Weightloss pills. I bought fat burners from Walmart. No research. Just grabbing whatever was over the counter. Did it “work”? Sort of. Mostly it gave me anxiety, a racing heart, dry mouth, and a constant fear about what I was putting in my body. I lost weight because I wasn’t eating enough—and it all came back fast.
Vitamin store pill. Then I tried “healthier” supplements like CLA and green tea extract. The truth is they only work alongside consistent workouts and balanced nutrition. Without that foundation, that one-percent effort doesn’t move the needle. I genuinely thought a supplement would make me skinny overnight.
Phentermine from high-volume weight loss clinics. It was legal, yes, but felt gimmicky and artificial. I lost weight, but my quality of life suffered. The side effects were unpleasant, and my body felt like it was fighting itself.
The good stuff
Beachbody. Depending on your knowledge of them, this can be a controversial opinion. They used to have a big MLM network attached called “coaches” and now have switched to just affiliates but this is what worked for me. It gave me workouts, nutrition guidance, and community in one place. I could follow a calendar, press play, and not overthink it. I’ve been doing Beachbody workouts for nearly ten years, both at home and in the gym. I personally use their pre-workout, wellness shake, and recovery protein because it’s good quality and have proven to work for me.
Learning macros. Understanding macronutrients changed how I see food. Calories matter, but body composition and metabolism are more nuanced, especially for women with PCOS. Pairing carbs with fat or protein stabilizes blood sugar far better than carbs alone, and that knowledge alone can shift results.
Anything with community. If you do one thing, do this. Join something with people. A class, a run club, a gym —go to something, somewhere the energy is BUZZING. You’re far more likely to stick to a goal when you’re not doing it alone.
Supplementing my body. I use creatine gummies, prebiotic/probiotics, collagen, amino acids, fish oil and NAD+ as my go-to stack especially as I get older I know I need to help my body’s nutrients outside of what I can consume with food alone.
Hers. I tried Hers during a season when weight loss felt impossible due to underlying health issues. I appreciated the transparent pricing, easy check-ins, and provider access. While I didn’t stay on the program long-term, it can be a solid, lower-cost option for anyone looking for a structured, medical starting point.
GLPs. I’m a big fan of GLPs. I have tons of friends on various levels of fitness and health on them, and they’ve been game-changers. (Also: Let’s get over the stigma that GLPs are “cheating.” By that same logic, everyone who wears glasses is cheating by fixing their vision. If there’s a tool that helps you live a healthier life, use it!) Work with a doctor for weight loss or a functional medicine doc for biohacking. Peptides and GLPs are worth exploring.
Whatever you decide to try for weight loss is okay! My only unsolicited advice: don’t focus on skinny. Focus on long-term wellness. Don’t pursue a weight loss journey because you want to “look” a certain way or fit into a certain size. Those milestones are fun, but the real reward is longevity. It’s waking up at 80 without severe health problems, happy and healthy and able to live your life fully.
