JOB SEARCHING

8 Quick Ways to Glow Up Your LinkedIn Profile Before Job Hunting in 2026
If 2026 might be your job-search year, your LinkedIn profile can’t be a “someday” task. It’s your digital first impression, your credibility check, and your chance to make someone think, Oh, she’s the real deal.
A few strategic tweaks now = way more opportunities later.
Here’s your glow-up cheat sheet.
1. Start with your future self
Most people write from their past. Great profiles speak from their next chapter. Ask yourself: Who am I becoming in 2026? What do I want to be known for?
Use that answer to shape your headline, About section, and Featured content.
2. Upgrade your headline
Your headline follows you everywhere on LinkedIn and heavily influences whether people click or keep scrolling.
Try this formula: [What you do] + [Who you help] + [How you deliver value]
Skip the vague job titles:
- Founder
- Senior Manager
- Director
Aim for clarity and positioning:
- Commercial strategist in digital retail
- Ops leader driving efficiency + scale
- HR Director driving people + culture transformation
- Communications lead for high-growth brands
3. Get a good profile photo
Use a high-quality, professional headshot with good lighting and a clean background. Your face should take up 60% of the frame. Profiles with a professional photo get up to 21x more views and 36x more messages. Don’t have one? You can use AI to generate quality headshots using this tutorial.
4. Refresh your About section with clarity and personality
Your About section isn’t a memoir or CV copy-paste. Write in first person with a story-driven approach. According to LinkedIn consultant Laura Taylor, “People want to read your profile and hear your voice.” Use the first 2-3 lines to hook your audience. Focus on your expertise, the scope of your work, the outcomes you deliver, key achievements, and a line that reflects your personality.
5. Add proof you’re brilliant
Women often downplay their achievements. Don’t. Take advantage of the Featured section and add your standout wins. Include press features, speaking engagements, big projects, client work, and anything with measurable impact. Make your expertise impossible to miss.
6. Strengthen your experience section
Results > responsibilities. Recruiters skim, so make your wins scannable:
- “Increased retention by 15 percent”
- “Generated $1M in pipeline”
- “Improved operations across 12 markets”
Numbers tell a story faster than paragraphs ever could.
7. Optimize skills, endorsements, and recommendations
Choose 3–5 skills tied to where you’re going, not where you’ve been. Profiles with 5+ skills are 17x more likely to get views (yes, really). Ask colleagues for endorsements + quick recommendations. Social proof converts.
8. Share content that reflects your next chapter
You don’t need to post daily to be visible. You just need consistency of message. Choose two or three themes you want to be known for and rotate them. This signals your direction and builds credibility over time.
Your LinkedIn profile should work as hard as you do. Start with your headline and About section, then chip away at the rest. You don’t need to overhaul everything in one sitting. Even tackling one upgrade puts you ahead of most people!

BIGGEST CHALLENGE

The Focus Strategy Every Manager Needs
“My biggest challenge is staying focused when I have an open door policy.” — Marah
An open door policy is great for building trust with your team. It’s also one of the fastest ways to lose your focus.
You’re finally in flow, and then someone pops in with a “quick question” that derails your entire train of thought. By the time they leave, you’ve lost 20 minutes trying to remember where you were.
You don’t have to choose between being supportive and getting your own work done, but you do need structure.
Set Office Hours for Non-Urgent Stuff
Pick predictable windows when people can pop in for quick questions or feedback. Put them on your calendar. Say them out loud in team meetings. When access is predictable, interruptions stop ambushing your day.
Label What’s Urgent… and What’s Not
Teach your team how to triage. True emergencies? Reach you immediately. Everything else? Office hours.
Ask for a quick Slack ping before someone walks over. That small pause protects your focus and helps you switch contexts on purpose.
Close the Door During Deep Work
If you’re in a focus zone, close the door and signal when you’ll be available again. “Heads down until 2 PM” is enough. Clear expectations = fewer knocks and less backtracking.
Offer Support Without Becoming a Default Help Desk
Track the patterns. Who interrupts most? What topics repeat? Where are the knowledge gaps?
Fix the root causes: a quick training session, a shared resource doc, or a weekly round-up of FAQs often eliminates entire categories of interruptions.
You can absolutely have an open-door policy that doesn’t cause you stress or come at your expense. Set office hours. Clarify what’s urgent. Close your door when you need deep work. Communicate your boundaries clearly.
Your team will adapt, and you’ll finally be able to get something done without waiting for the next knock on your door.
