Redefining Success and High Performance

My career as an executive assistant began in the same way so many others experience: on the job learning, watching and listening, handovers featuring the bare bones of information and how-to for systems, figuring everything else out along the way with a lot of stress, pressure and anxiety, and never being completely sure that I was doing everything the ideal or perfect way.

Perhaps the most difficult aspect of the training in my early career was around the expectations of me.
I was led to believe that I could not do my job if I showed up any other way.

This conditioning, on top of the day-to-day realities of being an assistant, created a very unhealthy view of what high performance meant.

As a result I gave more of myself to my work than was healthy.

I showed up when my family needed me, when I was on leave, when I was ill and when I was grieving.

I was perpetually ‘on’.

Take a few minutes to check in with yourself

FigJam's Self-Evaluation Template

Just pause for a moment…

Look back on the past year and check in with yourself.

When was the last time you reflected on what you’ve overcome and accomplished? What roadblocks are you hitting?

Ideally, you’re not waiting a year to reflect on this, and you’re doing this regularly so you can continue learning and growing.

FigJam’s free handy Self-Evaluation Template can help you list out all your accomplishments from the year, and identify any areas that can use improvement or goals that need updating.

You’ll be happy you took the time now to get ahead later.

What we’re loving this week

📖 Book: If you’re looking for a down-to-earth and easy read on creativity, check out Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon. With advice on building creativity by borrowing ideas, starting small, and embracing your influences, Kleon’s book gives inspiration and permission to begin making art without waiting for perfection.

🐶 Pet Accessory: If your dog is shedding everywhere, consider getting a Kong ZoomGroom — your pup is sure to love the massage from its gentle teeth while you focus on deshedding.

🛠️ Tool: There are tons of A.I. tools out there but RambleFix currently has our attention. Just say what you want (whether it be a message, to do item, social post, etc.) and let it work its magic.

💋 Beauty: Say goodbye to disorganized beauty products and hello to this aesthetically pleasing makeup organizer. It holds more than you think!

Tonka pet of the week

Tonka’s toys are always all over the house. He plays with each and everyone of them and knows a lot of them by name (ridiculous names his owner has made up).

There are times he’s looking for a specific toy and will run around the house to find it (so he can bring it to his owner to brag about his skills).

So you can imagine his dismay, when his mama puts them all away in his basket; apparently on this day, there was one specific one he really needed 😂!

💌 We’re huge pet lovers at The Assist and want to feature a pet each week — fill out this form for your fur baby to be featured!
