Name that Woman Trailblazer: She ruled ancient Egypt as co-regent for almost three decades. She was part of a dynasty of Macedonian rulers founded by Ptolemy, who served as general under Alexander the Great during his conquest of Egypt in 332 B.C. Well-educated and clever, she could speak various languages and served as the dominant ruler in all three of her co-regencies.
WOMAN OF THE WEEK
Meet Rachael Frick 👋
Hello! I’m Rachael Frick.
I wear quite a few hats in my day-to-day, Director, Strategist, Chapter President, Speaker and my personal favorite — Wife.
I love advertising and have found a new love for the tech side of it as well. Under the AdTech umbrella, I have a passion for Strategy and creating a great culture among my teams which is where my message of “Nice Leaders Get Things Done” came into play.
My goal is to share that message with leadership of all types to create better working environments that don’t sacrifice the person for the project.

That’s why we’re so excited to be partnering with Sunsama — an in-browser app that helps you keep focused each day to hit your weekly goals, no matter what gets thrown into your schedule.

Q&A CORNER
Rachael’s Secrets
Q: How did you get into your current role/industry?
A: I went to Michigan State University where I majored in Advertising Management. Throughout my time at MSU I found a passion for the business side of advertising and found my footing as a leader in my sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi.
After my first ad agency job, I found myself chatting with my current boss and falling in love with the startup culture, the opportunity to shape my role and department into something that works for me, and the amazing team of women I work with.
I stayed involved in AOII after college as a volunteer and leader in my alumni chapter to hone my leadership skills with women in all stages of life and their careera.
Q: What’s something you do to help boost your productivity?
A: I start every day off with a big coffee and rewrite my to-do list.
I find that a clean to-do list helps me be more productive because I don’t have to sift through everything that’s done and can focus on what is outstanding or in-progress.
Q: How do you find work-life balance?
A: I found that balance was relative. The scales are always moving for me. But I did find a work-life ritual.
This ritual entails daily movement in any form, lots of coffee, dedicated reading, and journaling time for my “life” part.
For the “work” part, I worked to block my calendar to allow for more deep-think time where I can dive into bigger questions and projects.
I also make my calendar work for me, I know I’m more creative in the morning so I leave my mornings open to let good ideas come through and dedicate afternoons to meetings and emails.
Q: What’s the best piece of professional advice you’ve received so far?
A: “People relate to people, not paper”.
The idea behind this was that you can write and post about how great you/your product/your organization is all you want, but until the people who want to be your friend/buy what you’re selling/sign up to work with your org, know YOU, it doesn’t matter what your posts say.
Because people want to connect to others and they trust the people behind those things more when they truly know and trust them.
Q: What’s your favorite software or app that helps with your workflow?
A: With my team, Google Sheets.
We have a shared to-do list so we can see who needs more assistance and can realign our to-do’s faster.
For me, it’s old fashioned pen and paper. I love to write my to-do lists, notes and ideas and then type them out once they’re finished.
Q: What’s a book or podcast you’d recommend to a colleague?
A: I love 9-5ish from TheSkimm. They do a fantastic job of asking questions I want answers to from women in a variety of industries.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time outside of work?
A: I love to do yoga with my best friend, Hike with my husband and our dog Pearl and I’m a huge book worm!

BLESSINGS IN LESSONS
Be Yourself
A lesson I’ve learned in my career is that being myself is the best thing I could do for my career.
I spent a large part of my college and first job trying to be the perfect professional, having the perfect experience, resume, etc., but once I let that idea of perfectionism go and got comfortable with my “nice girl” side, the bright smile at everything, the too-loud laugh, and took a chance on that woman, the doors started to open.
It all came back to “people relating to people”.
The woman I am when I am myself is the woman people gravitate toward and want to work with.
And I love her and want to work with her too!
